They’ve moved out of the society that would have protected them, and into the dark forest, into the world of fire, [the world] of original experience. Original experience has not been interpreted for you, and so you’ve got to work out your life for yourself. Either you can take it or you can’t. You don’t have to go far off the interpreted path to find yourself in very difficult situations. The courage to face the trials [...], that is the hero’s deed.

“creating an open space where individuals can break free from preexisting roles and obligations, reacting and interacting in new and unforeseeable ways.” (Grant Kester discussing dialogic art, Conversation Pieces, p. 6)

Philosophy:
Engaging in generative dialogue results in a democratization of knowledge production and an increased sense of empowerment for the participants.  During such encounters, the open sharing of ideas is rewarded with the pure joy of the creative moment, that moment when the epiphany hits, rather than with external rewards. And through direct social interaction, participants generate firsthand understandings rather than encountering the world vicariously. In the end, the experiences are the art; and the participants are responsible for creating it.
